Established by a Decision of the Second Extraordinary Meeting of ASNOM (the Antifascist Assembly of the National Liberation Movement of Macedonia) on 29 December 1944, Stopanska Banka AD - Skopje was one of the first financial institutions in the newly-created state. The Bank made an extraordinary contribution to the renewal of the country and its transformation into a modern industrial economy.

Stopanska Banka was directly involved in the projects for construction, recovery and modernization of the country, in the development of the infrastructure, power generation complex, irrigation schemes, urbanization and housing construction.

Stopanska Banka was transformed into a joint-stock company at the Founding Shareholders' Assembly meeting on 29.12.1989 when market criteria and contemporary banking principles and standards were introduced in the Bank's operations.

At the beginning of the new millennium, in April 2000, the new era started for Stopanska Banka AD - Skopje . The Bank was completely privatized by share of the renowned foreign investors.

With the new capital injections the share of the principal shareholders in Stopanska Banka AD - Skopje equity capital is as follows:

•  National Bank of Greece - NBG - 73,04%

•  International Finance Corporation - IFC -10,80%

•  European Bank for Reconstruction and Development - EBRD - 10,80%
